From the bucolic Highlands to the fisheries of the Delaware Valley to the power of the Great Falls to the family fun of the Jersey Shore our state is one of the most water rich areas in the United States. Established in 1902 and headquartered in the Nation’s Capital, ARTBA is the oldest and most respected national transportation construction-related association.
ARTBA founder Horatio Earle, a Michigan public official, was the first to articulate the need for a federally-built network of Interstate highways. Earle called it the “Capital Connecting Government Highway System,” which he said, would “connect every state capital with each other and the Nation’s Capital-Washington, D.C.” Earle’s vision was achieved in 1956 when President Eisenhower signed the law authorizing the construction of the Interstate Highway System and creation of the Highway Trust Fund to pay for it.
ARTBA members designed, built and continue to maintain the Interstate system, along with the rest of the nation’s transportation network.
The association’s mission is simple: We are a federation whose primary goal is to aggressively grow and protect transportation infrastructure investment to meet the public and business demand for safe and efficient travel. In support of this mission, ARTBA also provides programs and services designed to give its 6,500+ public and private sector members a global competitive edge.
ARTBA’s core values and principles-defined and reflected in the association’s governance, management, policies and program of work-include: integrity and the highest ethical standards, visionary leadership that always focuses on the future and fosters innovation, an “action-oriented” approach and intelligent risk taking.

USGBC NJ is at the forefront of changing the way buildings in our state are designed, built and operated. Our goal is to be a leader in promoting the benefits of more sustainable homes, offices, schools, hospitals, theaters, retail spaces and more. ”Green” building makes communities more environmentally responsible and better places to live, learn and work.
Green building is a more than just environmentally conscious. It’s also economically sound. More and more homeowners, corporations, organizations and investors not only prefer more sustainable building practices, they demand them. Green buildings translate to lower utility costs, healthier living, better re-sale value on homes, and higher rents on commercial properties. The future of sustainable building looks bight. And greener by the minute.
